                                   Description:

                                        This workshop will focus on ways to utilize cemetery work projects as a means through which students, faculty, and communities can become actively engaged in restorative justice focused service learning projects. Participants will learn about Project Restore and Operation Dignity, two cemetery restoration movements that strive to restore the resting places of individuals who have been disenfranchised in life and death.  Students and faculty will share their perspectives about what they have learned through being directly involved in these projects, on an international level as well as within New York State.  Ways in which service learning projects of this nature can be integrated into community contexts as well as a broad range of academic disciplines and course offerings will be discussed.

                                        Description:

                                        We share our experiences and student learning from student-driven marketing projects undertaken in Spring 2009.  Consumer Behavior and Sales Management classes collaborated with community partners to engage in experiential learning which resulted in marketing strategies and promotional materials that the community partners could implement to improve the services they provide to their constituents.

                              C:  Pratical Tips:  Incorporating Service Learning into a Class Project (Room 117)

                                   -What's a "wiki" got to do with advocating for homeless teens? 

                                        Donna McIntosh, Siena College PolicyOptions.org Faculty

                                        Description:

                                        This workshop will share the experiences of senior social work students and their instructor in using the wiki of PolicyOptions.org as an advocacy tool to examine the feasibility of an expanded model of services for older homeless youths.

 

                                   -Reflections on Service-Learning in a College Business Class 

                                        Deb Kelly, Siena College, Christopher Little, Siena College '10, and Mary Alice Russo, Executive Director of the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Foundation

                                        Description:

                                        A college professor, a student and a community partner describe their respective roles and experiences with a semester-long service learning project conducted in conjunction with a college-level introduction to management class.
